Day 3 (June 12)
Who did you vote for in the last presidential election? Please submit your vote at the end of this parent devotional. Just kidding of course. Maybe a safer question is, what’s the last restaurant you had a meal in? Chances are, you chose to eat at that restaurant because of a few different factors (price, convenience, what you were craving, etc.). The bottom line is- you chose it. We make choices everyday. We make so many choices that we probably aren’t even aware of all the choices we make in a single day- - which is why it is so important to make intentional choices that matter.
Joshua 24:15- “But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve… But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
Who do you serve? This is a big choice, because it impacts everything else you do in your day and life. If you serve your kids, then everything you do is going to be based on making their lives as good and easy as you can. If it’s serving yourself, then everything you do is going to be to better yourself (even at the expense of hurting others). Our desire is that you would choose today, and every day, to serve the Lord.
Have you ever thought about the fact that God had a choice? God chose to send His Son, Jesus, to come to earth. He chose for His Son to live perfectly but to die a wrongful and humiliating death on a cross in front of his home town. God didn’t have to do that. Have you ever thought about that? He didn’t have to. He chose to. Let the weight of that sink in. He chose to do that…for YOU!
Romans 5:8- “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Even if we don’t choose God, God loves us so much that He chose to send His Son to die. He did that just so we would have the opportunity to spend forever with Him in Heaven one day when our time on earth is done. He chose us. Jesus went through everything for us. Which leads to the question- - have you chosen Him? If you have not chosen to have a relationship with Jesus, we want you to have that chance today. This isn’t about joining a church or committing to be on some spam e-mailing list. This is about you and Him. If you don’t have a relationship with Him, simply pray something like this to Him today- “Jesus, I know I need you. As best as I know how, I ask you into my heart. Come into my life right now and turn me into the person you want me to be. Help me to live my life for you. Thank you for loving me and thank you for forgiving me. I love you. In Jesus’ name I pray- Amen.”
If you already have that relationship with Jesus, choose to live for Him today. Make that choice. If you don’t make it intentionally, the world will distract you and keep you busy, and you’ll end up making the choices you don’t really want to make.
